US steel imports in October decreased by 16.8% month on month

According to data from the US Department of Commerce, US steel imports in October decreased by 16.8% month on month to 2.46 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 79%. The import volume of steel from January to October this year increased by 38.2% year-on-year, to 24.09 million tons.
In terms of variety, the import volume of semi-finished products decreased significantly in October, with a 50% decrease in slab imports to 246982 tons and a 30% decrease in other semi-finished products to 93302 tons. The import volume of hot-rolled coils increased by 13% month on month to 451760 tons, and the import volume of hot-dip galvanized steel increased by 12% month on month to 244209 tons. During the same period, the import volume of cold-rolled steel sheets and coils decreased by 14% to 126314 tons.
Canada was the largest exporter of steel to the United States in October, with an initial total import volume of 687483 tons, compared to 748541 tons in September. The rest are Mexico (450941 tons), South Korea (184005 tons), Brazil (160586 tons) and Türkiye (135203 tons).
